Important Materials For Nose Piercings
Nose piercings can quite commonly heal up and get irritated, so it is important to understand the differences between basic materials. The most common material is surgical steel, while the most popular hypoallergenic material is titanium. You can read about these and other materials in full detail on our materials blog. Below you can find a brief description of both.
316L Surgical Steel
Surgical stainless steel is a durable nose piercing material, and certainly has the widest range of options in terms of style and colour. It is more affordable than other jewellery, but can also contain traces of nickel which may cause an irritation in your nose.
G23 Titanium
Titanium is the safest metal for nose piercings as it is hypoallergenic and more affordable than gold. It makes an excellent nose screw that also won't discolour due to contact with bodily fluids, which is common in the nose.
1. Nose Screws
Push the end of the screw into the piercing, the twist it in the direction of the spiral as you push it in gently, so that the decorative end sits on the nostril.
2. Septum Piercing
Much the same, except it goes through the membrane in the nose. Be very gentle and make sure it is secure.
3. Nose Bone
Gently push this through as the end is thicker than the shaft of the piercing itself, and you don't want to get hurt. This is the most straightforward though.
4. Segment/Seamless Ring
Using a special forceps, open the ring, insert it into the nose, then carefully clamp the ring closed again, being sure not to lose the ball.
5. Nose Stud
Insert the smaller, bent part of the stud gently into your nose piercing, then turn it inwards and gently push the rest in.
6. Open-Ended Ring
These are very simple, simply insert the thinner end into the piercing and twist it around until the open end is hidden in the nose.
Aftercare
Always be sure to keep your nose piercing clean as it can pick up lots of bacteria. It is no harm to use a simple salt spray, or if you have taken the piercing out and it is beginning to heal over, you could use some healing oil once you have reinserted your piercing.
